M. aFloristic composition and phytosociology of the gallery forest alongside the Gama stream in Brasilia, DF, Brazil. c1994 aChanges in floristic composition and structure in Gama gallery forest were studied over a six-year period. A 3.02 ha sample was assessed in 1985, 1988 and 1991 when all individuals with 31 cm girth at 1.30m above ground were measured. The soil is dystrophic and with a high aluminium content. Shannon's diversity index was 3.84 and Pielou's evenness index was 0.84. The richest families in number of species were Leguminosae, Myrtaceae an Rubiaceae, while the Leguminosae. Apocynaceae, Cunnoniaceae and Rutaceae made up most of the individuals. Density and basal area of the whole community changed little, in the range of 2 to 3% respectively, over the six years, but major changes, in the range of 15 to 40% were registered for some individual species. This indicates that the community structure is dynamic and that dominants may change with time abotanical composition aBrazil aplant ecology aCerrado aComposição Botânica aMata Ciliar aBrasil aBrasilia aDistrito Federal aFitossociologia aRibeirao do Gama tRevista Brasileira de Botanica, Sao Paulogv.17, n.1, p.1-11, 1994.
