The perspective is to explore the interaction ofthe research user with both soil erosion and plant production simulation models in order to give insights on potential indicators for sustainable practces in agriculture. The problem definition relating sustainability questions with requirements for information technology is presented in chapter one, as a basis for these research questions, objectives, and methology. A literature review of sustainability from global to local levels was very useful to understand, distinguish and identify involved elements, relationships, and processes. This exercise have generateda solid foundation for the subsequent application abstraction and geo-information systems analysis. The use of the object-oriented technology applied to system analysis and design was exerciced through the Rational Rose Case Tool, which could validate the definitions for object classes and relationships by means fo diagrams that depict scenarios of critical interactions of the proposed system. At this phase, an expansion of the adopted method was required in order to deal with the geometric data component in geographic applications. The translation of the results form object-oriented analysis into a relational database model could offer a logical model representing a simple but useful data structure as in charpter four. Besides, it was possible to proceed... ageographic information systems asustainable agriculture aAgricultura Sustentável aErosão aSistema de Informação Geográfica aSolo aAgricultura Sustentada aAnalysis and design aEspanha aGeo-information theory aGIS aLand-use system analysis aPotential indicators for sustainability aRelational Geo-data model aSoil erosion model aSolos
