The sMDH-1/sMDH-2 heterodimer is always present in all coleoptiles samples while homodimers fluctuate in sMDH-1/sMDH-1 and sMDH-2/sMDH-2 subunit associations. Three mMdh loci containing significant frequencies of null alleles were identified at mMdh-1 and mMdh-2 loci. Null alleles, which result neither in active homodimers nor in heterodimers for mMdh-1 (mMdh-1n/n) and mMdh-2 (mMdb-2n/n) loci, and null alleles which result in inactive homodimers and active heterodimers for mMdh-1 (mMdh-1n/+) and mMdh-2 (mMdh-2n/+) loci, have been detected in CMS-43 coleoptiles.
