Boletim técnico, 189).  aA região de Amargosa - Bahia 10 municípios e compõe a 29ª região Administrativa pertencente ao Recôncavo do sul do estado da Bahia. Nela há a ocorrência de dois biomas diferenciados: Mata Atlântica e Caatinga e um ecótono na interface destes, denominado regional de "beira campo". A produção rural é representativa, principalmente no município de São Miguel das Matas (localidade do Córrego), onde 70% dos habitantes vivem no campo. O sistema e manejo adotados, em especial para atividades agrícolas predominantes, com pastagens (Brachiaria decumbens) e mandioca (Manihot sp.), têm sido prejudiciais aos recursos solo e água. Nas unidades familiares entre os agricultores com posse consoliada da terra é comum a presença dos quintais agroflorestais, combinado estratégia de segurança alimentar e de produção para o mercado principalmente de cacau (Theobroma cacao). Verificou-se e existência de três a cinco estratos verticais nos quintais agroflorestais, desempenhado inúmeras funções e usos, compostos de mais de três dezenas de frutíferas garantindo uma dieta diversificada para família rural. O quintal é um espaço de múltiplo uso, no qual o desempenho feminino é resultado no aspecto da segurança alimentar. a mulher responsabiliza-se pelo plantio e cultivo de espécies de valor alimentício e de uso medicinal. As atividades masculinas estão, na maioria das vezes, concentradas nas culturas de valor comercial, como na produção de cacau. Nos quintais estudados, encontram-se entre 68 e 97 diferentes espécies de plantas. Os quintais agroflorestais podem conferir uma renda mensal em torno de 1,5 salário mínimo/família/ha. Verificou-se a importância deste sistema agrícola da unidade familiar no aspecto da biodiversidade e segurança alimentar alimentar das populações locais. The amargosa area (State of Bahia, Brazil), has 10 districts, and belongs to South Recôncavo region of the State. This region has two differentiated ecosystems: Rain forest and Brazilian Savanna with a transition area, area, called "beira campo" (field boarder). In São Miguel das Matas (córrego), the country population is representative, where 70% of the population lives in the rural zone. The main agricultural system, based on the cassava crop (Manihot sp) and brachiaria pasture (Brachiaria decumbers), have threatened the natural resources water and soil. the homegardens are common to the landowners, combining strategy of alimentary safety and crop production, mainly cocoa (Theobroma cacao) for marketing. There to five vertical strata were verified in the homegardens, having several functions and uses, composed by more than three than dozens of fruit crops, which provide a diversified diet for the farmers. The agroforestry gardens are a multiple use space, in which the labor is important in the alimentary safety. The women are responsible for the cultivation of the home consuming and medicinal plants. The man usually works with commercial crops like cocoa. In the studie agroforestry gardens, the number of plant was from 68 to 97 different species. These gardens produce an income to the rural family approximately of 1.5 Brazilian basic salary.
