M. aEarthworm biodiversity in La Vieja watershed, Colombia. c2008 aIn this paper we have an updated list of the earthworms of the La Vieja watershed in the Risaralda, Valley Cauca and Quindío departments, Colombia. In the study a map was chosen, with a non probabilistic random systemic design, fifteen grids of one km2 with 16 testing points at 200 m distance inside each window, situated in the transportation subsystem in the La Vieja watershed. The marking points were located in the fields of 48 farms with the help of a GPS, and the monoliths were constructed to test some macro invertebrates according to the method used by the TSBF. 35 species of earthworms were found in the soils, all situated in four families (Glososcolecidae, Megascolecidae, Acanthodrilidae and Lumbricidae) and 12 genera, from which nineteen (19) are native, nine (9) are exotic and seven (7) in juvenile stage. The species that belong to the ecological epigeic (22) and endogeic (9) categories, most of them (14) live on the 0 ? 20 cm layer, with an average vertical distribution of 7.5 cm in depth. In land covered by grass or coffee variety Colombia predominated the earthworms from the Asian and African paleotropic (P. coretrurus, P. elongata, D. annae, P. excavatus) currently inhabiting anthropic environments. The species of the other families, except Dichogaster medellina, were eurytopic. Lists of species and geographical distribution are given with new data for Colombia of some species described before. The methodology used with fifteen grids in the landscape allowed identifying the number of highest earthworm species (35 species in 15 km2) more than other studies in Colombia.
