Proceedings... [S. l.]: ECCO - European Culture Collections' Organization, 2007. Poster P03.c2007 aA wide number of microorganisms belong to Brazilian ecosystems. Related to the phytopathogenic ones, there are a significant biodiversity adapted to different hosts and climates in the whole country, Fungi and bacteria are responsible for most damages and losses in the production chains of Agriculture and Forestry. There are some sparse collections located in research centers. However, they are in some cases not well established. Therefore a great number of isolates or strains are lost or remain unknown. There is a need for further development of culture collections and for the exchange of information on cultures to make a significant advance in the agricultural and forestry research. The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAP A) has made efforts in organizing the culture collections in network. Currently a network project linked to a generic resources platform is being implemented. Regarding the importance of the platform, the organizarion of the collections as database is a priority. In addition, many laboratory activities and maintenance of the pure cultures are in the scope of the platform. Collections also will provide resource for training and information forcatalogs and exchange among taxonomists. aMicroorganismo fitopatogênico1 aREIS, A.1 aCASELA, C. R.1 aTREMACOLDI, C.
