Altamente nutritiva e acessível, a banana faz parte da dieta básica de milhões de pessoas, sobretudo nos países em desenvolvimento. O Brasil é um de seus maiores produtores e consumidores mundiais. Porém, a elevada suscetibilidade da bananeira a uma variedade de pragas e agentes patogênicos provoca acentuadas quedas na produtividade dos plantios em diferentes pontos do globo. O gorgulho Odoiporus longicollis é considerado uma das pragas mais impactantes dessa cultura, contudo, até o momento, sua ocorrência ainda está restrita à zona equatorial da Ásia. Mas, afinal, o que torna esta coleóptera uma grande ameaça para a bananicultura mundial? E, no Brasil, quais seriam os danos causados por essa praga? Para responder a essas e outras perguntas, o presente trabalho de revisão teve como objetivo traçar um breve panorama sobre as principais características desse inseto e, assim, estimular a discussão sobre o desenvolvimento de estratégias de fortalecimento das barreiras fitossanitárias do nosso país, para prevenir a entrada desse agente que pode gerar enormes prejuízos à produção nacional de banana. Abstract:Banana is one of the most appreciated fruits in the world. Highly nutritious and accessible, it is part of the staple diet of millions of people, especially in developing countries. Brazil is one of its largest producers and consumers in the world. However, the high susceptibility of banana plants to various pests and pathogens causes sharp decreases in the productivity of plantations in different parts of the world. The pseudostem weevil Odoiporus longicollis is considered one of the most striking pests of this culture; however, until now, its presence is still restricted to the equatorial zone of Asia. However, what does it make this beetle a major threat to the global banana production? And, in Brazil, what would be the damage caused by this insect?
