M. aSustentability of marginal goat production systems based on arid rangelands in a tropical countrybmyth or reality?. c2000 aResults of this study establish that goat production was not related to over-grazing or erosion. On the contrary, goat production is developed under marginal conditions, and makes use of range bio-diversity, mainly on the bush stratum, a fact that enhance its position to be considered as an activity ecologically sustainable. In order to warrants its economic and ecological sustainability, goat production must transit from a low productivity scenario to other of higher productivity, the last by exerting a low degree of artificialization of the production system. In this way, the sustainability of the natural goat production system based on arid rangelands in northern Mexico would be considered not a myth but a reality. Table 1.
