China is one of the richest citrus variety centers in the world, with rich resources of wild and semi-wild species, and numerous superior varieties. Recent fossil excavations in Yunnan and Szechuan Plateau revealed that many Rutaceae pollens were preserved from the quarternary glaciation. Citrus plants are easily hybridized and mutations are frequent, therefore, rich resources of citrus varieties are existing in China. From Yunnan to the coastal provinces. At present, there are living citrus trees about 360 years okd which are still bearing fruit (Fig.11). |
