The theoretical potential deleterious impact of gene flow involving transgenic plants has been a demand associated with the utilization of the recombinant DNA technology and its derivative products. In this context, we have initiated experiments at EMBRAPA Cerrados, located in Planaltina, Distrito Federal, in order to evaluate and generate information about gene flow between transgenic and non-transgenic soybean plants. The transgenic soybean plants were produced by EMBRAPA. In soybean, cross pollination may occur in a frequency from 0.5% and 1%. Different non-transgenic soybean lines from the variety BR-16 were sown, at the lateral and around sides of transgenic soybean lines carrying the ahas gene, which confers herbicide tolerance against imidazolinones. Each line was previously identified, the produced seeds were manually collected and sown for the evaluation of the exogenous ahas gene flow. Twenty five days after germination, the plantlets were pulverized with the herbicide imazapyr at a dosage of 100g/ha and the surviving plants were analyzed by PCR. The gene flow was evaluated as function of the distance, occurrence of polinizers insects, preferential wind direction and weather variations. The results found should form the foundation to the studies of the gene flow involving transgenic plants at the Cerrado region and may contribute for the knowledgment of the effective impact of transgenic plants in the environment. |
