The distribution of Fusarium oxysporum (FO) was evaluated in an area used for banana screening to Panama disease resistance (F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense - FOC). The severity was assessed aiming to test the relationship between FO colonies counted in Komada medium and disease intensity. The FO spatial distribution was highly variable (Standardized Morisita's Index - SMI= 0.551) but spatial dependence among the sampled points was not verified (SADIE and LCORR analyses). Most of the 'Maçã' plants (92%) used as susceptible control, showed different levels of disease intensity, but no relation with FO distribution was found. In order to estimate the FOC quantity, 10 colonies from each sampled point were transferred to PDA medium and compared with a FOC strain isolated from the same area. Despite of the increment in FOC-like colonies variability (SMI= 0.625), no significant change in the spatial pattern was noted. In addition, no relation of FOC-like colonies and disease intensity was observed. Studies addressed to develop efficient tools for quantitative detection of FOC from soil, as well as to determine the minimum FOC inoculum necessary to cause Panama disease are currently undergoing. |
