Tritrophic interactions mediated by semiochemicals have been intensively studied from the view-point of ecological relationships with Nearctic tritrophic organisms. However, there are few studies involving interactions with different herbivores on the same host plant in Neotropical systems. The objective of the current study was to investigate the effects of herbivory by two species of stink bugs (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) with the same feeding habit ? Tibraca limbativentris Stal and Glyphepomis spinosa Campos & Grazia?on indirect and direct defence strategies of rice plants. The responsesof each stink bug species (virgin and mated females) and of their main natural enemy, the egg parasitoid Telenomus podisi Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae; mated females), to volatiles from undamaged and herbivore-damaged rice plants were evaluated using a Y-tube olfactometer. The results showed that rice plants responded differently to T. limbativentris or G. spinosa herbivory,enhancing the production of a different blend of volatile compounds, which reduced the attraction for conspecific stink bugs and elicited the foraging behaviour of T. podisi. |

Os fungos do gênero Trichoderma são de grande importância econômica para a agricultura, uma vez que são capazes de atuarem como agentes de controle de doenças de várias plantas cultivadas, promotores de crescimento e indutores de resistência de plantas a doenças. O fungo Thielaviopsis paradoxa, anamórfico (forma assexuada) do Ceratocystis paradoxa é o agente causal da doença conhecida como resinose do coqueiro, doença que vem provocando grandes prejuízos econômicos ao estado de Sergipe e outros estados brasileiros. O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a ação antagonista ?in vitro? e selecionar isolados de Trichoderma spp. com potencial para uso no biocontrole do T. paradoxa. Foram utilizados no experimento 10 isolados de Trichoderma spp. provenientes de diferentes regiões do Brasil (TC101, TC102, TC103, TC104, TC105, TC106, TC107, RS201, TC109, TC110) e um isolado de T. paradoxa (TC003). Para verificar a ação antagônica dos isolados de Trichoderma sp. sobre T. paradoxa utilizou-se o pareamento de culturas em placas de Petri. Medidas do crescimento micelial de T. paradoxa foram obtidas sete dias após o plaqueamento com auxílio de um paquímetro. Os isolados de Trichoderma: TC103, TC105, TC102, TC106, TC104 e TC101 foram os que promoveram maior inibição do crescimento micelial de T. paradoxa em relação aos demais isolados e também em relação à testemunha e, portanto apresentaram melhor potencial hiperparasita com relação ao fitopatógeno. |
