The general objective of this study was to evaluated the prevalence and magnitude of genotype by environment interactions in beef cattle. More specifically the purpose was to study the effects of the interaction between two genotypes, which were developed from the same line of Hereford cattle, on reproductive and growth traits and condition score. Hereford cattle originating from 1 inbred line were selected and tested simultaneously in Florida and in Montana. A replicate of each genotype (Florida and Montana) was maintained at the other location by reciprocal transfer of bulls. Traits analysed were pregnancy rate, calf survival rate, birth weight, birth weight of calves surviving to weaning, 205-day weight, shoulder width, withers height, body length, cannon circumference and calf condition score at weaning. |
