Knowledge of the chemical composition of plants from Brazilian Cerrados is, considering the vast extention of these drylands, disproportionally slight. On evidence presented in three case studies it is predicted that it will turn out to be extraordinarily diversified, if compared with the chemistry of the adjoining rainforests. Hence, in view of progressive population pressure on these drylands, it is urged to priorize the scrutiny of their plant metabolites. |

Adopting ecological theory in microbiome research, combined with modeling and synthetic microbial ecosystems, is a promising complementary strategy to unravel the host traits and cues involved in the assembly as well as evolution of human and plant microbiomes, with the ultimate goal to improve agricultural sustainability and human health. |
