Among the pathogenics agents that cause damages in plants of wetland rice, there are the
nematodes of the gender Meloidogyne spp. The damages caused by these organisms vary
with the degree of resistance of the plants, with the level populational in the soil and also with the
handling of irrigation of cultivated area. In Brazil, the registrations of occurrence of Meloidogyne
spp. in rice are sporadic, being this pest not always identified in species level. Among the
methods used for pathogenics nematodes identification, the morphologic techniques are still
more commonly the used. However, for the group Meloidogyne, the identification at the specific
level just based on morphologic characteres, besides being slow, a lot of times is not very
necessary depending on the appraised parameters. The use of the eletroforese technique is
considered the first step for the identification of species of the gender Meloidogyne spp. The
work had as objective the isoenzymatic characterization of 21 populations of the root-knot
namatode (Meloidogyne spp.) coming of areas cultivated with wetland rice of the central area of
Rio Grande do Sul State. Twenty and one samples of wethland rice roots of plants with symptoms
of root-knot namatode were collected in coming areas of 10 districts of the central area of Rio
Grande do Sul State, the analyze in the Nematology Laboratory of Centro de Pesquisa
Agropecuária de Clima Temperado (Embrapa-CPACT), Pelotas-RS. For each sample, 20 adult
females of the root-knot namatode were collected of wetland rice roots. Therefore after, the
isoenzymatic characterization of different populations of Meloidogyne spp. was proceded,
through the analysis of the respective esterase phenotypes. The identification of the phenotypes
esterastics of Meloidogyne spp. studied was accomplished by the calculation of the relative
mobility of the polimorphics bands of each population in relation to the first band of M. javanica
used as pattern. The populations of Meloidogyne studied at specific level, presented the same
profile for esterase, demonstrating the presence of M. graminicola phenotype esterase VS1
(Rm 0,70) in that area. However as other species of the root-knot nematode can be present in
areas cultivated with wetland rice, a more studies should be accomplished in another areas
cultivated with this culture of these places MenosAmong the pathogenics agents that cause damages in plants of wetland rice, there are the
