Several feed additives have been evaluated in fish diets to replace the use of antibiotics and chemotherapeutics. The use of yeast and derivatives as feed additives stands out due to their biosafety and effective responses on growth and health. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate a combination of dietary B-glucans and mannanoligosaccharides-MOS derived from yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae on growth and feed efficiency of juvenile pacu. Graded levels (0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8%) of Glucan-MOS® was added in isonitrogenous (23% of digestible protein) and isoenergetic (13.38 MJ of digestible energy kg-1) diets, corresponding to five treatments and four replicates. According to the manufacturer information, Glucan-MOS® contains approximately 30 % of ?-glucans and 12% of MOS. Fish (n=160, 30.92±0.46g) were distributed in 20 aquaria (300 L) with a recirculation water system and controlled temperature in a completely randomized experimental design. Fish were fed four times a day until apparent satiation, during 30 days. After growth trial, all fish were weighed individually to calculate weight gain (WG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), specific growth rate (SGR), and protein efficiency ratio (PER). Data were subjected to oneway analysis of variance (ANOVA) and polynomial regression. During the experimental period, the survival rate was 100% for all treatments. WG showed a quadratic effect (? = - 21.144x2 + 8.817x + 26.612; R2 = 0.99), with an optimum estimated level of 0.21% of Glucan-MOS®. FCR and PER showed a quadratic effect (? = 0.760x2 - 0.310x + 1.770; R2 = 0.48; ? = -2.014x2 + 0.982x + 2.390; R2 = 0.45), respectively. Estimated optimum levels of both equations were not considered due to low coefficient of determination of equations. However, the best responses in FCR and PER were observed at 0.1 and 0.2% of Glucan-MOS®. The results of this study reinforce the benefits on the use of feed additives derived from yeast in fish diets. Dietary supplementation with 0.2% ?glucans and MOS (Glucan-MOS®) for 30 days promoted better growth and feed efficiency responses. |
