In modern agriculture, increments in yields and reduction in costs and in risk of failure are increasingly dependent on the wide usage of the available resources. In a study involving various Brazilian institutions, areas with lesser failure risks to the soybean crop development were outlined. Using the simulation model SARRA (Systeme d'Analyse Regionale des Risques Agroclimatiques) and DSSAT (Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer), areas with higher or lower probability of occurrence of water deficits during the crop's most critical stage were defined as function of sowing time, water availability, crop water consumption at different crop stages, type of soil and cultivar cycle. A geographical information system (GIS) was used for spatial analysis and presentation of the results. Fifty-four maps built from the combination of nine sowing times, three soil types and two cultivars were produced for each State involved in the study. Each map represents the combination of one the levels of each factor above, i.e., each map depicts the risk classification on different areas in each State for a given sowing time as function of the type of soil and of cultivar. |
