During two consecutive years (93/94 and 94/95), the behaviour of three genetic materials of corn was studied, one tolerant (Cargill 525) and two suscetibles (HS 7777 in 93/94 and HS701B in 94/95) to Al+3 toxicity in the soil. The trial was set on a Latossolo Vermelho Escuro with alic character located on the Experimental Farm of UFPR - Piraquara-PR. In order to correct the high soil acidity lime was applied in four levels: 0,1/3,2/3 and the total of the estimated rate, that was obtained through the product neutralization curve. The methodology adapted from Manichon was developed by researches of the Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL) and EMBRAPA-CNPDIA. The tranchs opened in each parcel were filmed and the digitalized images were treated, as a result, the presence or absence of roots in squares of 1x1cm of the soil profile was observed. The root system development was evaluated through the following parameters: total presence of root system in relation to the area of the observed profile; relation between the total presence of root system and the presence until 20cm deep; the depth which was reached by the total of root system, and the depth by 50% of the total of presence of the root system. Within the results obtained from the statistical analysis it was not possible to ensure that there were differences either in the root system development between the varieties or between tre treatments. |
