Studies were conducted on 6 different breeds of sheep, maintained under arid conditions with respect to the climatic factors affecting their body weight, wool production and water intake during summer and winter seasons. The cross-bred males (Marwari .times. Soviet Merino) and the Magra females were the heaviest in both the seasons. The wool production was highest in cross-bred animals, irrespective of the seasons. There was a significant effect of breed, sex and year on body weight and wool production. Season had a significant effect on wool production, the production being higher in March than in September. The water intake did not differ significantly among breeds but the consumption during summer was significantly higher than in winter. |
