Total biomass was determined in a central amazonian rain forest northeast of manaus, Brazil, by means of destructive sampling. Using the values of total fresh phytomass for plants over 1.5 m height in 40 sub-plots (5x10 m) in a plot 50x40m, we calculated (in t/ha) the phytomass of that fraction of plants for square blocks (40x40 m, 30x30 m, and 10x10 m) and for transects 10 m width (north-south and east-west) which were stablished in the original plot. Value for strata D (1.7-3.0 m), C2 (3.6-5.9 m) C1 (8.4-14.5 m), B (16.7-25.9 m) and A (23.7-35.4 m) in each square block and transect are compared with each other and with those obtained for the whole original plot (40x50 m). Standard errors are indicated for all values. |
