The behavior of trace elements in the soil-plant system is complex and therefore has been usually studied separatelly. For instance, the nucleation of Zn hydroxide on clay surfaces may produce the strongly pH dependent retention of Zn in soils. Besides, the adsorption of Zn2+ can be reduced at lower pH by competing cations leading to an easy mobilization and leaching of Zn from light acid soils. Processes involved in Zn adsorption, as well as for many other elements, are not completely understood. This work demonstrates the suitability of PIXE technique to study Zn in soil. To demonstrate the capability of the method soil samples were collected from an agricultural field having 5000m2 and were analyzed using both PIXE and INAA techniques. Results showed that there is a good linear relationship for Zn concentration obtained using those techniques. |
