Abstract: Suckling behaviour in Black Bengal kid directly from mother was studies. Observations on approach pattern of kid towards doe reveated that among twins, the kid with lighter body weight reached doe firs in 57.5 per cent occasions and preferred approaching doe through her lefside in significantly (P<01) heigher number (67.5%) of occasions. The rate of suckling (gm/min) was significantly (P<0.01) influenced by type of birth of kid but not by sex of kid and intensity of tail wagging. The partial regression of rate of suckling on body weight of kid was negative (P<0.01). The overall mean rate of sucklinh was 16.91±1.37 gm/min. The overall mean number of butting per minute of suckling was 4.94±0.22. The type of birth of kids had no influence on frequency of butting but the trait was significantly influenced by sex of kid (P<0.01) and intensity of trail wagging (P<0.05). The partical regression of butting frequency on body weight of kid (1.93±0.31) and that on rate of sucking (0.15±0.02) was significant statistic ally (P<0.01). |
