The effects of rootstock on tree size, yield and fruit quality of Leang Ellendale at Yanco, and the early performance of Leng and Barlow ellendale propagated on a range of rooststock and as cuttings at Dereton is reported. The rootstocks used at Yanco were Poncirus trifoliata, sweet orange, Emperor mandarin, and Carrizo citrange. On a heavy soil prone to waterlogging the cumulative yield (11years) of trees on P. trifoliata was more than double the yield on Emperor and 80 per cent greater than yield on sweet orange. In a second trial at yanco planted on a lighter soil with better drainage the growth and productivity of trees on Emperor and sweet orange was improved. |
