A population density trial with five different spacings (25x50x75 cm, 50x50x75 cm, 25x75 cm 50x75 cm and 50x50 cm) was laid on 34 p. c. hill slope of high rainfall area of Meghalaya at Bumihat during 1975-78. Across the hil slope, planting with a spacing of 25 cm x 75 cm and having about 51000 plants/ha was found to be the best method of planting, where maximum fruit yield and moderate soil loss were recorded. There was no adverse effect of high density planting on the quality of the fruit, although there was reduction in individual fruit size to certain extent. |
