Os machos de Anthonomus grandis produzem um feromônio de agregação, composto por quatro componentes de origem terpênica, que atrai a ambos os sexos. A colonização nos algodoais se inicia com o surgimento dos botões florais e emissão de compostos orgânicos voláteis pelas plantas, e se intensifica com o feromônio liberado pelos primeiros machos que chegam à lavoura. A produção feromonal de A. grandis é influenciada por vários fatores, dentre eles, a alimentação. Contudo, os estudos até então conduzidos não avaliaram quantitativamente a taxa de emissão do feromônio, após a alimentação em diferentes estádios fenológicos e estruturas do algodoeiro. Tal informação é importante porque provaria que a fenologia da planta influencia a produção do feromônio. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi quantificar a emissão do feromônio de A. grandis após a alimentação em diferentes estruturas do algodoeiro em dois estádios fenológicos. O feromônio dos machos foi coletado após alimentação em algodoeiros nos estádios vegetativo e reprodutivo, e após a alimentação em folhas e botões florais. Os voláteis foram analisados por cromatografia gasosa e espectrometria de massas. Nos dois estádios fenológicos, não houve emissão do feromônio quando A. grandis se alimentou de folhas. O feromônio foi produzido somente após a alimentação em botões florais. Os resultados demonstram que a produção feromonal de A. grandis é influenciada pelo tipo de estrutura vegetal e pela fenologia do algodoeiro. |

The parallelized large-eddy simulation model (PALM) was used to understand better the turbulent exchanges of a passive scalar above and within a forested region located in the central Amazon. Weak (2 ms-1) and strong (6 ms-1) wind conditions were simulated. A passive scalar source was introduced to the forest floor for both simulations. The simulations reproduced the main characteristics of the turbulent flow and of the passive scalar transport between the forest and the atmosphere. Noteworthily, strong and weak wind conditions presented different turbulence structures that drove different patterns of scalar exchange both within and above the forest. These results show how passive scalar concentration is influenced by the wind speed at the canopy top. Additionally, higher wind speeds are related to stronger sweep and ejection regimes, generating more intense plumes that are able to reduce the passive scalar concentration inside the forest canopy. This work was the first that used PALM to investigate scalar transport between the Amazon rainforest and the atmosphere |
