This study was carried out to determine the time spent on mount training, the optimal pressure exerted over the penis during ejaculation and the elimination rate of Iberian boars at an artificial insemination (IA) programme. Twenty-one Iberian boars (Torbiscal, Manchado de Jabugo, Retinto, Lampino and Entrepelado) were used for mount training for semen collection, in order to establish the first Spain semen bank of minmor varieties of Iberian pigs. The Iberian boars were evaluated in sexual experience and dummy adaptability to elaborate a specific sexual behaviour protocol for laboratories of pig andrology. The time spent in training varied from two months to 11 months, depending of the showed by the boar. The results showed that 90% of the Iberian pigs needed a dynamic pressure in the penis in order to obtain successful in the ejaculation process. The elimination rate observed in this study was 19% and the main causes of elimination were excessive or absent sexual interest. |
