Non-pathological disorders of citrus fruits can be categorized as to their most likely time of origin. i.e. Preharvest, nutrition related: Exanthema (ammoniation), boron deficiency (arsenic toxicity), creasing, 'Pineapple' pitting. Preharvest, weather related: zebra skin of tangerines, water spotting, sunburn, freeze injury, endoxerosis (wither tip) of lemons, wind scar, concentric rind stipple of grapefruit. Preharvest, maturity related: sloughing of red grapefruit, rind staining of navel oranges, puffing of tangerines, rumple of lemons, granulation of oranges. Harvest induced: oleocellosis, stylar-end breakdown of limes, blossom-end clearing of grapefruit, stem-end rind breakdown of oranges. Postharvest origination: chilling injury (peel pitting, oil gland darkening, watery breakdown, scalding, brown staining, albedo browning), aging, freezing, re epidermal lesions. |
