This paper provides a description and comparison of Project ION the interlending open systems interconnection project between LASER in the United Kingdom, Pica in the Netherlands and the PEB service run by MEN/SUNIST in Frnce, wich is funded under the European Commission's IMPACT programme and an express document delivery service JASON being developed by University Libraries in North-Rhine Westphalia in Germany. The two projects show that much throught and development effort are being put in, in the case of project ION to applying international standars developed by ISO (the International Organisation for Standardisation) for interlibrary lending messaning services - the ILL protocol and fortransparently linking different searching systems at LASER and Pica byimplementing the search and retrieve - SR protocol. |
