The mango fruit is one of the oldest tropical fruits. According to Singh it is the most popular fruit in the Orient where it is appreciated as the choicest of indigenous fruits occupying relatively the same position in the tropics as the apple in Europe and North America. The acreage of mango fruits was estimated i n1970 as approximately 25000 acres producing as much as 80000 tons of fruit a year. In recent years the fruit canning industry of Egypt has become increasingly interested in the physico-chemical parameters of maturity in mango fruits. Hendi and Taymour are two of the most popular varieties grown in Egypt. |
