This insect is not commun in bananas and when it is present, the number of individuals is usually very low. It is the same species that is found in citrus . Description: the insects viviparous and the crawler is the only immature stage that is mobile. The crawlers are yellow, soon settle down on the host plant and start to secrete their scale covers. At first the cover is cottony white, but after a day or two it becomes brownish to pale red. The female insect has a circular cover. It moults cover twice before the adut stage, at which copulation occurs, is reached. In citrus one female can produce up to 400 crawlers and four generations occur annually. The immature male insects has an elongated cover. |
