Female calves that were dewormed regularly every 2, 3, 4 and 6 months showed signifi- cant weight gains over the control animals. No distinct advantage on the basis of weight gains was however observed among the treated lots. Bull calves generally tend to grow faster than female calves and medication did not produce any significant effect in the weight gains of bull calves. The animals in the three farms were infected with the same kind of worms which were strongyloides and Cooperia spp. at the age of 1-6 months and Haemonchus, Oesophagostomum , Cooperia spp. at a later age. Drenching the animals every 2, 3, 4 and 6 months produce significant weight increases in female calves that more than compensate for the cost of medication. |
