The feces of infected cattle were artificially deposited on the pasture and examined for
larvae at biweekly and monthly intervals. The percentage of larval survival was greater in dung pats deposited during the dry rather athan rainy season. Larvae were recovered from the dung pats for as long as 12 weeks after deposition during the dry season and as long
as 4 weeks during the rainy seasons, but the number of larvae recovered was less than 1 perfent of the original population. It was further observed that the Cooperia and Oesopha-
gostumum larvae survived longer in the dung pats than other strongyle larvae. Most larvae
could not be found in the dung pats after 4 weeks exposure on the pasture. |
