A research unit to study natural resources in the state was established in 1968 at the university of Florida under a cooperative agreement with the soil and Water Conservation Research Division of the USDA. The new research effort is aimed at finding more efficient ways to use various soil, water, atmosphere and plant (SWAP) resources. SWAP, which is the official name of the project, will eventually have many interests and several locations of work within the state, but iniatially nearly all effort has been given to the establishment of a drainage study with citrus at the Agricultural Research Center at Fort Pierce. |
