Voice Market Information System (VMIS) is a computerized information system that has been developed to promote the timely distribution of current agricultural market information. VMIS obtains data from USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) via AMS's satellite market news network, compiles and translates the data into suitable formats and stores the data in a database. The data in the database then can be accessed through an ordinary touch-tone telephone. Three different methods are available to provide easy access to the information stored in VMIS. VMIS is an extension to Market Information System (MIS), a computerized information system developed at the University of Florida in 1985. |
