The growth response of grapefruit trees to a wide range in N supply was followed for seven years. The rates of N were 1, 1.5, 2, 3, and 4 lb. per tree per year. Deficiency symptoms increased in severity with diminished supply below 3 lb. The most striking symptoms was the lack of adequate foliage resulting from early abscissino of mature leaves. Leaf and shoot production and ultimate tree size were essentially the same on all levels of N. Leaf was one year ot less under N stress compared to two years when N supply was adequate. |
