The present investigations indicate that the nutrient requirements recommended by the NRC (1966), especially DCP during the active phase of growth in cross-bred (3 to 10 months of age) were lower. It is suggested that a 30 per cent increase in DCP over those recommended by NRC would result in a 30 per cent increase in daily live weight gains. However, it is observed that once the cross-breds attain a body weight at 250kg, the NRC level of nutrient requirements seems to be adequate. generally at this.body weight, cross-breds showed the first sign of oestrus and any increase over and above the NRC level might lead to excessive undesirable fattening thereby defeating the very object of raising dairy herd. |
