Millicomposting is a little-known technique in Brazil and especially in the world. It consists of the use of millipedes, which through their millipede feeding activity, enhance the fragmentation of agricultural and urban waste. It is through the accumulation of its fecal pellets that the formation of the organic compost, which we call millicompost, occurs. Given the need to increasingly prioritize the use of sustainable substrates, the objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of millet in the production of broccoli seedlings. The substrates used were: millicompost obtained after 180 days of millicomposting and the commercial substrate Biomix®organic. The substrates were characterized as to their physicochemical, chemical and physical properties. Shoot and root dry mass (g), plant height (cm), number of leaves, seedling vigor and clod stability were evaluated. Millicompost showed greater total macronutrients supply around 201, 138, 85, 293 and 29% for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium, respectively. Concerning to physical properties, the millicompost showed higher water retention capacity and lower volumetric density. These results reflected in an increase of 217% in the accumulation of shoot dry mass and 148% in the root dry mass, promoting 36% more clod stability, providing the formation of broccoli seedlings with height two times greater than the seedlings developed in the commercial substrate Biomix®organic. The millicomposting represents a new alternative for recycling organic waste to obtain organic substrate for producers, as it provides more vigorous seedlings for transplanting in production sites. Os estudos sobre a estrutura e dinâmica de floresta são importantes ferramentas para definir estratégias de preservação e recuperação destes ecossistemas. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a dinâmica de crescimento de um remanescente de Floresta Estacional Decidual, localizado no Campo de Instrução de Santa Maria, (53° 52' O e 29° 46' S), no Município de Santa Maria, RS, pertencente ao Ministério de Defesa. Na área foram marcadas 14 parcelas permanentes de 20 m x 100 m distribuídas sistematicamente, as quais são utilizadas para analisar a composição florística, estrutura de crescimento, recrutamento e mortalidade de espécies, além dos mecanismos de regeneração (chuva de sementes, banco de sementes do solo e banco de plântulas). As parcelas foram subdivididas em 20 sub-parcelas de 10 m x 10 m, onde as árvores
foram etiquetadas e avaliadas (identificadas e medidas). A vegetação foi estudada em duas classes: Classe I (indivíduos com CAP = 30, cm), Classe II (indivíduos com altura = 30 cm e CAP < 30 cm). A classe II foi avaliada em cinco sub-parcelas selecionadas aleatoriamente, de acordo com as seguintes intensidades amostrais e subclasses: a) Sub-parcela de 10 m x 10 m, onde foram observados indivíduos com 10 cm = CAP < 30 cm; b) Sub-parcela de 5 m x 10 m para a avaliação dos indivíduos com 3,14 = CAP < 10 cm e c) Sub-parcela de 2 m x 2 m, onde foram avaliados os indivíduos com altura = 30 cm e CAP < 3,14 cm. Resultados preliminares indicam que as espécies predominantes na classe I foram Trichilia claussenii, Cupania vernalis, Plinia rivularis, enquanto, na classe II, Gymnanthes concolor, Soracea bonplandii e Eugenia rostrifolia. As espécies Trichilia claussenii, Cupania vernalis e Eugenia rostrifolia ocorreram na Classe I e nas
subclasses de menor tamanho, indicando a tendência dessas espécies em permanecerem na área.
