Soil animals in the seriously degraded and alkalined grasslands of Songnen Plain in China were investigated
with the emphasis laid on the species richness and abundance in relation to the typical practices of
vegetation reclamation i.e. fencing enclosure and planting Puccinellia chinampoensis. It was extracted
through Tullgren extractor, and was identified to the genus level with the aid of microscope. These results
showed that fewer mites and collembola were found in the seriously degraded and alkalined grasslands
than nematode, and vegetation reclamations can substantially improve soil animal communities after five
years treatments. However, the types of restoration practices have a different effect on the species richness
and abundance, the species richness, abundance and biodiversity index of soil animals in P. chinampoensis
practice were significantly higher than that of treated with fence enclosure. The results suggested that
planting Puccinellia chinampoensis maybe more favourably restored soil animal community than fencing
enclosure in seriously alkalinized and degraded grasslands of Songnen Plain, China. |
