After attaining harvest maturity, kinnow fruits loose their firmness within two to three weeks thereby reducing its marketability to a great extent. Studies on the effects of pre-harvest sprays of GA, Vipul (Triacontanol), calcium chloride and Bavistin (Methyl-2-benzimidazole) on the tree storage of kinnow fruits were conducted at Regional Fruit Research Station, Abohar, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during the year 1985 and 1986. The increased firmness and delayed colour break was obtained by applyng four sprays of 300 ppm GA or 2000 ppm Bavistin on 5, 25 November and 5 and 25 December, respectively. The fruit size, fruit weight and juice recovery increased as the concentrations and number of GA sprys were increased while peel per cent decreased. |
