The Sandveld communities of the Punda Milia-Pafuri-Wambiya area in the Kruger National Park are described floristically and structurally. Habitat factors such as aspect, slope, soil, geology and altitude are discussed briefly. The floristic classification of the communities was done by means of the Braun-Blanquet method and the communities are described in terms of the most conspicuous as well as the differential species in the woody and herbaceous strata. The structural analysis was done by means of the Variable Quadrant Plot method and the discussion of the structure of the communities is based on the different growth forms, their canopy spread in different strata and the number of individuals per hectare. |
