Senna macranthera (fedegoso), Senna spectabilis (cássia carnaval). Solanum granuloso-Ieprosum (gravitinga), Caesalpinea férrea (pau ferro), Tabebuia serratifolia (ipê amarelo), Maclura tinctoria (moreira). Guazuma ulmifolia (mutamba), Acacia polyphylla (maricá), Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia (sabiá), Enterolobium contortisiliquum (tamboril), Trema micrantha (trema) e Cedrela fissilis (cedro).
Reforestation is an appropriate strategy for the rehabilitation of degraded lands. This study consists of various greenhouse experiments conducted during 1999 to 2000 at the Federal University of Lavras in Minas Gerais, Brazil, with objeticve to evaluate some aspects of the host-fungus relationships involving the following fungi: Scutellospora pellucida, Acaulospora scrobiculata, Entrophospora colombiana, Gigaspora gigantea. Gigaspora. margarita, Glomus etunicatum, Scutellospora gregaria, Glomus clarum and isolated fungi from agrosystems and forest. The latter fungi were inoculated in: Luehea grandiflora (açoita-cavalo), Cecropia pachystachya (embauba), Schinus terebinthifoliu (aroerinha). Machaerium nyctitans (bico de pato). Senna macranthera (fedegoso). Senna spectabilis (cissia carnaval). Solanum granuloso-leprosum (gravitinga), Caesalpinea ferrea (pau ferro), Tabebuia serratifolia (ipe amarelo). Maclura tinctoria (moreira), Guazuma ulmifolia (mutamba), Acacia polyphylla (marica), Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia (sabia), Enterolobium contortisiliquum (tamboril). Trema micrantha (trema) e Cedrela fissilis (cedro). The experiments were conducted in plastic pots with 3kg of a fumigated low-fertilily Oxisol that received sufficient amounts of P (KH2P04)to attain 0.02 mg L.1 of P in the soil solution. Most studied host presented high compatibility towards microsymbionts. S. pellucida, E. colombiana, G. margarita, S. gregaria, Gl. clarum and those from the agrosystem exhibited compatibility with most of the hosts, whereas A. scrobiculata and S. greraria were more restricted. GI. clarum, E. colombiana, S. pellucida and Gl. etunicatum presented a broad symbiotic fitness, benefitting more than 75% of the host plants. A cavalo and embaúba were the most promiscuous species, benefitting from almost all of the fungi. The concentration of P and N in a. cavalo, embauba and moreira were not affected by inoculation, while in other species such effects were quite inconsistent. Several of the fungi enhanced photosynthesis in a. cavalo, embaúba, c. carnaval and sabia with low stomatic aperture, therefore indicating an efficient use of CO2 and water in those plants. Considering that they have a broad symbiotic host range GI. clarum, E. colombiana, S. pellucida and Gl. etunicatum are the most appropriate species for land-rehabilitation and reforestation in the tropics.
