In Uruguay, the first researcher to provide relevant knowledge on South American oligochaeta fauna, especially in the fields of taxonomy and biogeography, was Professor Ergasto H. Cordero (1890 - 1951). In his research, he established the presence of members of the Glossoscolecidae, Megascolecidae and Lumbricidae families. Our results show that the majority of species are exotic and belong to the Lumbricidae (6 species) and Megascolecidae (1 species) families, while the individuals belonging to the native families, Ocnenodrilidae (1 species) and Acanthodrilidae (1 species) represent the minority. The Lumbricidae and Megascolecidae families, originally from Europe and Asia - Australia respectively, comprise the highest diversity os species, particularly of invasive species. A virtually direct relation is established in this study between the number os species of the Lumbricidae family and the instensity of disturbance of the agroecosystems. It is of great importance to generate basic hypotheses in order to continue the studies on invasive species and their impact on the soils processes in agroecosystems, regarding productivity, stability and erosion, as well as their impact on the populations and communities of native species. |
