Abstract: Eighteen goats (Alpine × Beetal) of similar milk yield and lactation number were fed one of three diets of different RDP/ UDP ratios (A, 75:25; B, 55:45; C, 55:45 having 20% less CP than either Diets A or B). All animals were provided ad libitum green oat forage as basal roughage and concentrates twice a day 1 h before milking. The DMI was higher (P < 0.01) on Diet A (1278 g day?1) than on Diets B (1214 g day-1) or C (1203 g day-1) during 120 days. Overall intake of UDP was higher in Diet B (73 g day-1) than C (61 g day-1) or A (48 g day?1). Milk production (kg day-1) was higher (P < 0.01) on Diet B (1.56) than A (1.34) or C (1.34). The respective fat content of milk was 3.77%, 3.44% and 3.89% in Groups A, B and C. Total solids contents were also lower (P < 0.05) in Diet B than on A or C. Feed conversion efficiency was superior (P < 0.01) on Diet B than A or C (1.10, 1.39 and 1.24 kg milk yield per kg DMI). Diet B was most economical for milk production. It was concluded that the 55:45 ratio of RDP to UDP in diets was optimum and economical. |
