The composition of experimental errors associated with quality and quantity measures of pasture performance under grazing are examined. Equations describing the relationships between experimental errors and the variables, pasture size, number of animals per pasture and lengh of grazing period, are presented for quality measures like gain per animal and for yield measures like feed units per acre. The magnitude of errors obtaining under various experimental conditions is estimated from a number of replicated grazing trials conducted in the USA. The use of these results for efficient planning of grazing trials is discussed. |
