Nas últimas décadas a comunidade científica mundial tem enfatizado nos mais diversificados meios de comunicação a importância da preservação e/ou uso sustentável dos recursos naturais. Os cenários das mudanças climáticas globais e seus efeitos no meio ambiente, por exemplo, têm sido uma preocupação constante da humanidade (Lima et al., 2009). Os estudos relacionados à demanda hídrica em uma escala regional de forma a identificar variabilidades espaciais e temporais são fundamentais no diagnóstico e gerenciamento de bacias hidrográficas. As técnicas de sensoriamento remoto têm sido promissoras para análise da evapotranspiração (ET) em grandes áreas. Alguns estudos têm sido desenvolvidos objetivando a determinação da ET com base na equação do balanço de energia à superfície e técnicas de sensoriamento remoto (Bastiaanssen et al., 1998a e 1998b; Bastiaanssen, 2000; Tasumi et al., 2008). O SEBAL (Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land) é um dos algoritmos mais destacados em estudos que envolvem estimativas dos fluxos de energia em grandes áreas, podendo ser aplicado com poucas medições de campo. Este trabalho objetivou realizar estimativa da evapotranspiração real diária (ETdiário) na região do Pantanal com aplicação do algoritmo SEBAL e imagem do sensor MODIS com posterior análise das estimativas de acordo com classes de uso e cobertura da terra do PROBIO (Embrapa, 2004). |

The debate on the relationship between human activities and the growth in the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) into the atmosphere has brought the need to study more deeply the relationship between productive activities and the emission of these greenhouse gases (GHG) (FAO, 2013). Thus, the definition of what changes should be implemented in the production process aiming to reduce GHG emissions level should also consider the economic and social sustainability of the activity (SILVA et al, 2016). Beef cattle in Amazon, as in most of Brazil, is also predominantly developed in an extensive manner (ALVIM et al, 2015). The North Region had in 2014 a cattle herd of 45,826,142 beef heads, which represented 22% of the whole national herd, with emphasis to State of Pará with 19,911,217 - 43% of the regional cattle (IBGE, 2016). The study on the effects of this activity on the environment and the search for alternatives to mitigate the negative impacts will enable the development of more sustainable livestock. The increase in the adoption of more sustainable livestock systems, especially from an environmental point of view depends on the establishment of incentives to producers and, therefore, it is essential to identify models which present these virtuous characteristics, as well as economic performance, in order to define strategies for this combination. |
