Upward, downward and lateral translocation of the systemic fungicide oxcarboxin in primary and trifoliate bean leaves was studied. fifteen-day-old bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. `Pinto 111') leaves inoculated with the rust Uromyces phaseoli typica Arth. were used. Oxicarboxin was applied at the concentration of 2.000 ppm by spraying or by immersing the leaf in a suspension of the fungicide, with or without a coadjuvant, for periods of one half, one, three, six, and twelve hours. Two coadjuvants were tested, Esapon and Extravon. Translocation between primary leaves occurred only when one of them was immersed in the fungicide suspension and was faster with coadjuvants. Neither coadjuvant showed superiority. Upward translocation to the trifoliate leaf at the next node from an immersed primary leaf occurred more quickly when coadjuvants were used. Downward translocation from and immersed trifoliate leaf to inoculated primary leaves was not observed, even with the addition of coadjuvants. Basal to apical translocation and vice-versa in a primary leaf were evaluated by brushing on suspensions of 2.000 and 4.000 ppm of the fungicide, with and without coadjuvants. Only the higher dosage showed efficient translocation in both directions, and in this case the presence of coadjuvants did not seem to make a difference. The addition of the coadjuvants increase the phytotoxicity of the oxicarboxin notably when the immersion time of the primary leaves was longer than three hours. |
