Four doses of nematode suspensions were applied to the surfarce of plastic bags containing mature larvae of citrus root weevil, Pachnaeus litus Ger., in an experimental nursery located at the Entomopathogenic Laboratory at the Estacion Nacional de Sanidad de los Citricos. The mortality rate per dose was studied in two sucessive cheks. In all, 82% of the insects were killed by Neoplectana. A statistical analisys was made, and the figures were found to contrast siginificantly with those for the control. 1250 caterpillars (Galleria mellonella) that hadbeen inoculated with Neoaplectana P2M were placed in an equal number of bags at the nursery of the Empresa Citricola Victoria de Girom in Matanzas Province. The percentage of total mortality and that obtained with Neoaplectana were measured in laboratory tests made 15, 30 and 45 days after the applications and the namatode cycle of the first pointed sick weevils collected in the bags which were treated was analyzed. The indices of infestation for the control and for the treatment variant were determined by taking samples six months and six and a half months after the application, using a scale of i through V to measure the number of insect. A highly significant decrease in the index of infestation was observed in the treated bags as compared to the control. |
