Economic values were derived for sheep production system based on the BrazilianSanta Inês breed. Simulated economic and production data for a typical 1000-ewe flock associated with the Lamb Production Cooperative in Minas Gerais state were used. The economic values derived as the difference in the farm income/expense ratios before improvement and after improving the trait by 1%, keeping all other traits at their mean value, were (expressed in equivalent kg of lamb, per ewe per year): lamb daily weight gain, 0.138, ewe lamb daily weight gain, 0.003, replacement ewe lamb daily weight gain, 0.005, average ewe weight, 0.068, ewe/ram ratio, 0.016, fertility, 0.213, prolificacy, 0.218, lambing interval, 0.213, lamb survival, 0.355, carcass yield, 0.190. The economic values were also derived as the difference in farm profit before and after improving the trait by 1%. |
