A solar dryer for medicinal plants was developed on the basis of a plastic foil covered greenhouse. This dryer was tested in Yusgoslavia in an area where medicinal plants are produce in large scale. To decrease the investment costs of the drying unit the solar air heater is incorporated into the roof of a greenhouse construction. The solar air heater consists of a transparent plastic cover foil, a black textile fabric and an air-bubble foil, which avoids heat losses on the back. The foils as well as the textile fabric are connected onto the construction by a special weather strip fixing system. To enlarge the area of the solar air heater, the roof is extended on the southern side almost to the ground. |
