The aim of this work was to investigate whether the primordial follicle initiation of preantral follicular population in adult goats and sheep raised in Northeastern of Brazil mar be influenced by the season. For this, the ovaries of 12 ewes and 12 goats were collected in local slaughterhouse for histological procedures and evaluation of follicular population. The results for ovary weight and follicular population indicated a higher susceptibility to seasonal change in goat than sheep. The results suggest that the season can modify the preantral follicle development in differentiate ways. While ovary weight and total follicular population seems more affected in goat during dry season, the same season influenced with significant way the process of follicular development in sheep. |
